Cotton Candy Sermons Do Not Save Souls!

You may be thinking to yourself, “What kind of statement is that? What is a cotton candy sermon?” Let me explain what I mean:

Cotton candy sermons are the type of sermons that are fluffy, sugary, and sweet… The type that never steps on the toes of anyone… The type that never calls out nor gets specific about sin… The type that is soft on sin… The type that does not encourage true repentance from sin… The type that compromises the word of God… The type that does not emphasize putting God first at all costs… etc. The list could go on further to describe this type of sermon… But I think you get the point.

Sadly, many sermons that are preached today are of this sort! From what is being taught by many “preachers” in the pulpit, many souls are not fed sound, scriptural truth that truly equips and encourages them to put God first in their lives! Instead, so many people are being presented with fluffy, feel-good motivational speeches for sermons!

With that said… Please do not misinterpret what I am saying… Yes… We need preachers who are balanced… Yes… We need preachers who are not always cracking down hard on sin and exposing false doctrine to the neglect of people’s emotions and other important things that need to be addressed… And Yes… We need preachers who “speak the truth in love” (Ephesians 4:15)… But…

This world of lost souls and those who are in the Lord’s church need preachers who have a strong backbone to boldly speak the truth in Bible lessons and sermons containing sound doctrine (teaching), reproof, correction and instruction in righteousness! The souls of men and women need Bible lessons that convince, rebuke and exhort them in a longsuffering (patient) manner!
